About Us
Welcome to Al Samioun Madrassa for the Deaf – a unique Islamic institution dedicated to uplifting, educating, and empowering the Deaf Muslim community in Kenya.
Founded with deep compassion and purpose, Al Samioun is more than a madrassa — it is a sanctuary of learning, inclusion, and hope. We believe that disability is not inability, and our mission is to break barriers by providing accessible Islamic and vocational education tailored for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing.
At the heart of our work is the belief that every Deaf person deserves the opportunity to understand and live by the teachings of Islam. Through Qur’an classes in Sign Language, Islamic studies, guiding and counselling, and holistic support, we nurture spiritual growth, confidence, and a strong sense of community.
But our mission goes beyond spiritual learning. We equip our students — both children and adults — with practical life and technical skills including sewing, computer literacy, woodwork, beadwork, and cookery. Our aim is to ensure every student can lead a dignified, self-reliant life.
We also run outreach programs, support reverts to Islam, conduct Nikah ceremonies, and collaborate with Deaf schools and institutions across Kenya. Our dedicated team of Deaf and hearing educators and volunteers work across our growing centers in Likoni, Msambweni, and soon, our dream project — a Deaf Village and Vocational Institute for older Deaf individuals and youth with no access to higher education.
